Purpose: To investigation the clinical findings and the incidence of mild form of"steam-like clouding" appearing only on the anterior surface of the intraocular lens (IOL) optic contacting the aqueous humor
Subjects and methods: Subjects comprised of 127 eyes of 121 patients who underwent the triple procedure of vitrectomy, phacoemulsification, and IOL (Eternity) implantation at the Shohzankai Medical Foundation, Miyake Eye Hospital from September to December, 2017. Within 3 days post surgery, slit-lamp microscopy was conducted to quantify the degree of punctate deposits. These presented as clouding on greater than 2/3 of the anterior lens optic. Punctate density was greater than 50 but less than 1,500 within 1 square millimeter, resembling mild"steam-like clouding".
Results: The incidence of mild"steam-like clouding"was found to be 27.6% after the triple procedure of vitrectomy and cataract surgery with Eternity implantation.
Conclusions: Mild form of"steam-like clouding" after triple procedure of vitrectomy and cataract surgery with Eternity implantation appears to occur at a certain rate, and this finding has been overlooked.
